My Five Favorite Fall Finds

Fall Favorites.png

It is cozy season!

That’s official. The wind that is howling outside my door and the crisp days are reassuring us that autumn truly is upon us. I LOVE fall. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer and the sunshine, but the coziness that fall brings with it is truly special.

All About that Hygge!

Over the past few years, I find myself a bit obsessed with Hygge. If you aren’t familiar, Hygge (pronounced hyoo-gah) is a defining characteristic of the Danish culture. It is defined as: a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.

Perhaps it is being at home a little more over the past couple of years or maybe just getting older, I’m not sure, but finding coziness in the small things brings me great joy. I really appreciate the mindset of those smart Danes!

There is something renewing and nostalgic about elements of hygge in life. Think of the crackling of a warm fire, wrapping oneself in a favorite blanket, gathering with loved ones to share a home cooked meal, the scent of a favorite candle burning, savoring a favorite mug of tea while feeling the warmth in your hands. I find a peace within just closing my eyes and thinking about these things.

I love finding ways to bring more hygge into my own life and I have noticed a few things I have found lately that really fill this bucket. I thought I would share my five favorite fall finds with you! (Say that five times fast!) I hope you feel the hygge in them as well!

My favorite fall boots

Welcoming these perfect fall boots back into my life after a summer in the closet was like the return of an old friend. Oh man, I love them so much!

I cannot tell you how many compliments I receive each time I wear these! This is your perfect fall boot for every day wear and warm, happy feet!

I found these on Amazon last year when I was on the hunt for some daily wear boots that would be versatile, comfy and cute. I shopped extensively and didn’t want to spend a fortune on them. When I stumbled across this pair for $30, I couldn’t pass them up. I had low expectations for the quality and durability, but I can proudly say that they have surpassed all of my low expectations. I wore them almost daily for the past year and they are still going strong! They are my absolute favorite fall pair of shoes!

The Coziest Home Book

I love design. Every type. However, home interiors hold a special place in my heart.

Space planning with your livelihood and functionality at the forefront and layering that experience with elements that speak to your soul is one of the most personal projects there is. Creating a sanctuary you never want to leave is perhaps the most exciting project I can imagine doing!

This book takes you on a tour highlighting the lives and homes of several different families throughout the globe. With clever ideas and creative spaces, Natalie Walton digs into how these families make their homes truly their own with coziness and simplicity front and center.

You will leave with a desire to edit your space, clear the clutter and get down to the basics of what really matters to you. There is so much hygge happening in this book, I can’t get over it! The imagery is absolutely stunning and this is the perfect coffee table book to read over and over.

The best fall candles

I love candles. The sight of them, the warmth and finding that perfect fragrance. I burn them almost daily.

I especially love Trader Joe’s seasonal candles. I stopped in for groceries and was so delighted to see their displays filled with their two signature scents this season - Vanilla Pumpkin and Honeycrisp Apple.

I snagged one of each kind and quickly took them home and lit them! The cozy feelings of fall quickly overtook my home. They were scrumptious!

When Traders brings in their seasonal candles, it is a run-don’t-walk type of situation. Though I am afraid these probably sold out at your local store before I could get this blog post written, (still, try to grab one if you can!) finding special fall inspired candles that set a tone of cozy is one of my favorite parts of the season.

Some of my favorite sources for candles are Anthropologie, World Market and Target.

Fall Inspired Tea

I am a tea lover nearly all of the time but there is something extra hygge and special about holding a warm cup of tea in your hands, breathing in the aroma and savoring each sip on a chilly fall day. Add in a favorite fall inspired flavor and you’ve got all of the cozy in a mug!

I have enjoyed Harney & Son’s teas for years but a few weeks ago I grabbed this box because of the fall inspired color and the name. It is called Hot Cinnamon Sunset and it is delicious!

It is fabulous just steeped plain but if you want to up the ante, make an almond milk latte with it! Simply steam your almond milk and pour it over the tea bag in your favorite mug. It reminds me of a cinnamon roll and it has quickly become one of the best parts of my fall mornings.

Foraged And Dried Floral

If you have been here a while, you know I love flowers. They bring me such joy and getting my hands busy creating with them is my idea of a perfect day!

As the first frost hits and seasonal options become more sparse, I have found such a love in creating with dried materials and foliage and flowers foraged from my back yard.

I live with a mindset of going with the flow, and, as it is with flowers, why try to create with something that is hard to source? Why not use what nature so generously gives us.

I spent hours with my girls the week before last foraging in preparation for fall wreath making. It was a beautiful afternoon and creating strictly with foliage that we picked with our own hands, from our own yard was extra fulfilling. (Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post about three ways to use fall foliage in your home!)

If there are blooms you love through out the year that you can’t source in the fall and winter months, try to preserve them by drying them and then enjoy them anytime of year. I was the lucky recipient of some Cornflower/Bachelor’s Buttons from my dear friend and talented florist Kelli from Country Bouquets Floral. These sweet little nuggets bring a pretty pop of color on a gloomy day and can be added to anything from arrangements to flay lays for styling.

So, there you have it friends. Five things that I’m loving this fall! Which is your favorite or what is your favorite part of fall? I would love to know! Warm wishes to you all!
